Meet The Officers

All officers are required to  take on additional responsibilities in planning and organizing BSU activities, and boost the reputation of the club so that more people will attend and become educated about African-American culture.

Hi my name is Rebecca Clark-Callender and I am a senior at TJHSSTas well as President of BSU. I was born and raised in NOVA, and came to TJ to pursue my love of science, specifically neuroscience and biotechnology. Choosing TJ was not easy, but in the end I decided I wanted to challenge myself and take advantage of the unique oppurtunities offered here. Outside of school I play basketball year-round and have been a member of TJ's varisty girls' basketball team since freshman year. I will continue my basketball and academic careers at Washington University in St. Louis next year. My long term goal is to become a science writer for a magazine or radio show. Fun fact: I have been to 12 Broadway musicals and loved them all.

Assits the President when necessary, takes charge of meetings when the President is unavailable, and runs NSBE.

Azeez Abdikarim

Vice President

Hello my name is Azeez Abdikarim. I currently 17 years old and was born in Boston, Massachusetts. From a young age I have been interested in how electronic devices worked ad how to fix them. The innate desire to find out how technology and the world around me worked evolved into my interest for STEM, and is the reason why I decided that I wanted to attend TJ. In the future I plan on majoring in Mechanical Engineering, and then would like to pursue a career in biological robotics. An interesting fact about me is that my favorite musical artist is Kanye West.

Hello! I'm Connor Jones, A 17-year old junior at Thomas Jefferson, originally from Oakland, California. I have been secretary of BSU for the past two years and am proud to have been given the opportunity to participate in such a remarkable club with the some of the best people I've ever met. My journey to Thomas Jefferson started in the 4th grade, a year after I had moved to Virginia from my previous home in California. At that age I was fascinated with every subject offered by my school and wanted to learn everything there was to know about, well, everything. So it was at that moment I made my plans on attending TJ, where I knew I would be challenged academically on a daily basis and become a better student in preparation for college. When I'm not studying for exams or doing homework, you can normally find me in the gym training. I'm a level 10 gymnast, and am one of the top in competitors my region, having earned titles on floor and vault for the past 5 years at region championships.

Alex Hoganson

Treasurer

Hi, I’m Alex Hoganson, and I’m the treasurer of TJ BSU. I’m sixteen years old, born and raised in NOVA. Originally, I wanted to attend TJHSST because there are opportunities for me here that I can't get anywhere else. I knew it would be a tough four years, but I felt the knowledge and expertise I gained would make it worth my while. Although classes are stressful, some of my favorite people in the world go to this school. I look up to my grandparents, and always listen to their advice about my life. As for the future, well, that’s a scary place. I just hope that I do the best with what I have. And get an A in physics. A fun fact about me is that I took figure skating lessons for a few months in third grade, so-thats interesting, right?

Eke (Marc) Wokocha

Historian

Takes pictures of all BSU activities, design a bulletin board to be viewed at school, and prepares an exhibit for Black History Month.

Hi. I'm Eke Wokocha. I'm 16 years old, in my junior year, and was born in San Diego, California. I origially wanted to attend TJHSST so that I could be challenged academically; however, throughout my years at TJ I've grown to love all the opportunities we as students are provided. A fun fact about me is that I am a first-year member of the varsity dance team, band and am able to code in three different computer languages -- Python, C/C++, and Java.
